Water Drip

This is my set-up that I have been using during the Spring and Fall migration on the Upper Texas Coast.
I have an elavated pond made out of a bucket with a 2 foot X 2 foot piece of plywood on top.
I place a few rocks around the edges of the plywood and lay a piece of pond liner on top.
The final touch is running a small drip hose to it so there is always fresh running water.

As the birds make their way down to the water, they pause on my perches that I have set up.

Bird Photography on the Upper Texas Coast in the Fall

I have been spending more days shooting migrants this fall that any other fall for the past 15 years. Fall migration is a lot more spread out over a longer period of time so there is a lot of down time when sitting in the blind in front of my water drip. One species that is common in the Fall and not so much in the Spring is the Wilson’s Warbler. I managed to come away with plenty of images of this species. This species is know for cocking their tail and dropping their wings so I was glad to capture that pose.

This was taken at one of my set-ups where I use a water drip to entice the birds down.
